Call for Papers: The 2020 (the 5th session) Beijing International Urban Design Forum

    The 2020 (the 5th session) Beijing International Urban Design Forum (hereinafter referred to as the Forum) will be held in Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture from November 21 to 23, 2020. With the theme of “Resilient City • Healthy Human Habitat, the Forum aims to fully collect and facilitate the exchange of latest urban design theories and practices worldwide, and by fully recognizing the values and roles of urban design, prepare urban spatial systems for enhanced capability in responding and adapting to and recovering from uncertainties and risks like the major public health emergencies, in an effort to build a healthy, safe and sustainable living environment featuring high-quality development.

This Forum calls for papers in 2020 from now. Experts, scholars, teachers and students from colleges and universities, and researchers engaged in such fields as urban and rural planning, urban design, landscape architecture and architectural design are invited to submit papers. Relevant matters are notified as follows:

Ⅰ. Topics for Selection

Priorities shall be given to the following topics covering such three areas as the theory and methodology of urban design, cultural heritage protection and urban renewal, and green city and green building.

1. Contemporary Urban Design Theory, Method and Practice;

2. Innovation and Vitality Creation of Urban Public Space Design;

3. Protection of Architectural Heritage and Renewal of Historic Cities;

4. Innovation and Practice in Urban Community Governance;

5. Technological Innovation and Application in Smart Cities;

6. Education and Talent Training on Urban Design for a New Era.

Ⅱ. Submission Requirements

1. The paper should be an original and independent work of the author and academic cheating and duplicate submission are forbidden. Papers that have been officially published at academic conferences or on journals at home and abroad are not eligible;

2. The text and graphics in the paper shall not involve state or enterprise secrets or infringe on the copyrights of others;

3. The paper should present clear-cut views and be logically organized and realistic; be written in accurate, fluent, and concise words with clear illustrations;

4. The paper is subject to a length limit of 6,000 characters with no more than 6 pages. The paper structure should consist of title, author’s profile, abstract, keywords, main body, references, etc. (see the Appendix to this Call for Papers for specific format requirements and related rules);

5. The paper should be written in Chinese or English. For a paper written in Chinese, its title and abstract should be presented in both Chinese and English;

6. The publisher reserves the right to revise the paper as needed prior to the publication and authors are requested to keep their own manuscripts; papers selected by the Forum will be recommended to some professional journals and relevant search institutions, and any paper submitted to the Forum without a special declaration shall be deemed to have authorized the Forum for such recommendations;

7. Papers will not be returned once submitted; authors whose papers are not selected will not receive further notice.

Ⅲ. Selection and Handling of Papers

1. The Organizing Committee of the Forum will organize experts to review the submitted papers, and the selected ones will be officially published on the Proceedings of the 2020 (the 5th session) Beijing International Urban Design Forum;

2. Papers highlighting the topics of the Forum and of high quality will be chosen for exchange by the Organizing Committee of the Forum and the corresponding authors will be invited to give lectures at the featured session.

Ⅳ. Deadline and Submission of Papers

1. The submission deadline is 24:00 on September 18, 2020, which is subject to the time when papers are received by the designated email.

2. The designated email address for the Call for Papers of the Forum is udc@bucea.edu.cn, and the format of the email title should be “Call for Papers: The 2020 (the 5th session) Beijing International Urban Design Forum + Paper Title + the First Author”.
